Back to School Week

Hi.  I'm in my 40s and still going to damn college.  I did not grow up in the age of computers and easy access to information.  I was taught abstinence-only.  So I got pregnant when I was seventeen.  Hahahahaha.  So effective.  I am not even going to get into that whole story, other than the part where I finally went back to school when my two kids were teens.  I have to work, and I have a family.  I go part time.  It's taking a while.  I finally graduate in the spring (and then move on to university -- we are not done here).  This week, I began the penultimate semester of community college.  I enjoy the word "penultimate".  I'm going to overuse it in the coming months, and I'm not sorry.

Day One: History class.  I'm getting a degree in history.  The second part of US history is the last basic lower level history class that I need.  I am relieved to discover my professor is not a names-and-dates maniac who delights in making you pore over every tedious detail in a huge book so she can stump you on an impossible test.  I've had a lot of classes with difficult professors, so I decided on this look.

Basic neutrals, plus glitter tears.
Not my healthiest look.  I was prepared for a night of being slowly tortured with useless information that I have to remember just long enough to pass a test.

Here's how it wore as the day went on.  Maybe I was eating blueberries.  Maybe I was drinking the blood of my enemies.  The world may never know.

I used Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics for the neutrals.  I took an angled liner brush and some Sugarpill Dollipop to add the pink.  The wings weren't winging how I wanted them to, so I went over the Dollipop with Nyx glitter liner (this, maybe?).  And then I couldn't resist adding Inglot gel liner in black.  Which I apparently blinked with before it was dry.  Hooded lids, you guys.  Lips are Coloured Raine Heart of Stone.

Wore this with: Old Baratheon Stout shirt from Tee Fury, black leggings, the Hogwarts school skirt shown with this top, and Dr. Martens Combs boots in Oxblood.  As of this writing, 6pm still has a few pairs for $36!

Day Two: Back to Hogwarts.  Not actually a school day, but now I'm in student mode.

Yellow is really not my color, but I'm stubbornly going to keep trying.

I put on a shirt with a Hogwarts crest on it and then I found myself matching my eyeliner.  Once again used Naked Ultimate Basics and did some slightly fancy eyelining.  I used Sugarpill Buttercupcake at the inner corners, Sugarpill Midori as the green underwing, some random sample of a Lancome blue liner on the waterline, and Nyx red liquid liner.  What other lip was I going to pair with Hogwarts eyes than Sugarpill Pumpkin Spice?  Pumpkin juice is kind of meh.  I've had it in Hogsmeade.  You have to try it once.  Once is enough.  I'll stick with the lipstick though, even though it's not particularly flattering.

Wore this with: Strappy Hogwarts tank, some random yoga capris from Tarjay, and Brooks Adrenalines.  Did not feel like getting dressed.  Looked like a crazy old lady.  Didn't much care.

Day Three: Bio Anthro Lab.  I took biological anthropology in probably 2010, and now I'm finally getting around to taking the required lab course to go with it.  I've forgotten a lot, but I'm not too worried about it.  Also not feeling enthusiastic about sitting through three hours of a one-unit class that gets out around the time I'm usually in bed convincing myself I am totally going to power through a book but then waste time scrolling through Facebook instead.

I slept like crap and it shows.  Woohoo!

The most basic look of them all.  Naked Ultimate Basics again, going heavy on the black.  The only colors on my eyes are a little Kat Von D Thunderstruck in the inner corners (which I regret) and Nyx Faux Blacks in Oxblood on the waterline.  Lips are Wet N Wild Liquid Catsuit in Video Vixen with ELF Lip Lock.  I don't remember most of the blush used this week but the blush of the day here is Urban Decay Bittersweet -- the weirdo purple blush that we all had to have because purple but don't know how to use.  If you have this problem, use a very light hand with a very fluffy brush, and stipple it on.

Wore this with: On Wednesdays We Wear Black, Skeleton Spine Leggings, Black Fluevog Zachary.

Day Four: I wake up feeling like death after being out till past my bedtime.  I am lucky to stumble into work in sweats and clean underwear.

Day Five: I'm over it.

Stuff on my face:
  • The usual stuff.  I really don't feel like writing it out, or even copying and pasting.  I am not a font of unlimited energy here, people.  Details available on request.

Photos taken with my crappy phone, under bad lighting.  Editing done: Minor color correction and some cropping.
